From state to sentence
A strong lighting justification names the state, its intensity, colour and angle, explains what the change exposes or hides and links it to what the audience is forced to see in that moment. Start each fader at 50% so you have a reference point to brighten or dim from. When you layer, say what each light adds: the brightest light claims focus and every other light shapes the world around it.
